After long needed work... The Rescue Squad is back in-service.

At 1606 hours, the engine was alerted for an apartment fire at 6513 Hilmar Drive (26's first due).  The engine arrived on scene and secured a secondary water supply on side Charlie with smoke showing.  With no ladder trucks on side Charlie, the crew using the roof ladder, gained access to the third floor apartment and advanced the 400' attack line.

At 1744 hours, the engine was alerted for the second alarm at the National Harbor.  The engine arrived on scene and given the task of bring 3 inch supply to the 8th floor with extra SCBA's.  With 6 personnel, the crew conducted the task with 600' of 3", 6 extra spare SCBA cylinders.  The engine went in-service at 1829 hours.

April 16, 2008

At 0544 hours, the engine was alerted for an apartment fire at 4311 23rd Parkway (29's first due).  The engine arrived on scene, picked up engine 29's supply line at the entrance.  The officer from engine 29 advised he had fire in the walls of apartment 507.  The engine (2nd engine) used the high rise pack connecting to a secondary riser on side Charlie of the 5th floor.  The crew was then given direction  by Division 5 with further operations.  The engine went in service at 0725 hours.

Several members of Morningside (Career and Volunteer) were put in for The Prince George's County 31st Annual Public Safety Valor Awards Luncheon.  The luncheon will be held at The Camelot by Martins on May 1, 2008 at 1100 hours.

The members consist of Chief Michael White, Station Captain John Lyon, Engine Captain Anthony Johnson, Engine Lieutenant Andrea Sudjapen, Firefighter David Hansen, Firefighter Calvin McDowney, Firefighter Eric Nellis, Firefighter Christopher Hammand, Firefighter Kevin Trader, and Firefighter Dowling.

Congratulations to all members for a job well done.

At 0827 hours, the engine and ambulance were alerted for a vehicle accident on the beltway @ North of Penn. Ave.  Units arrived on scene with one trapped since 12 midnight.  The engine assisted Engine 37, and Rescue Squad 74 (Andrews AFB) with the extrication of the driver.  The engine went in-service at 0902 hours.

Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Hanson, (O) Lieutenant Gale, Firefighter Martin, Firefighter Shayne, and Firefighter Johnson (T2).

To cut back in overtime, The County Fire Chief requested that all the two shift personnel stations, staff the entire station for two (2) twelve (12) hour shifts per month for the next three months.  So ten (10) members of Morningside provided the service for the first day this month.  The station responded on 14 calls for the 12 hour shift. 

April 11, 2008

At 1934 hours, the engine and ambulance was alerted for vehicle accident at Allentown Road @ Old Branch Ave.  The crews arrived on scene and assisted with EMS.  The engine went in-service at 1954 hours.

Vehicle Accident

April 9, 2008

At 1101 hours, communication dispatched an apartment fire assignment at 3416 Curtis Drive #105.  The maintenance  personnel advised they can see fire and smoke in the apartment.  The engine arrived just behind engine 29 with heavy smoke in the building.  The Officer from 29 advised he has a kitchen fire in apartment 105.  Engine 27 with six personnel assisted 29 engine with knocking the fire.  The engine went in service at 1209 hours.

With Squad 8, 27, and 47 out of service, the county transferred squad 13 with a driver to Morningside to make up for the gap.

April 7, 2008

At 1438 hours, the engine and ambulance was alerted for a vehicle accident at 5921 Allentown Road with a car into the pole.  The units arrived on scene with two people next to the vehicle.  A citizen helped the driver and passenger exit the vehicle.  The engine went in service at 1512 hours.

Rescue Squad out of service for a head gasket replacement!  The rescue squad is a 2005 and has 49,610 miles.  The rescue squad is working on it's second motor.

The story about Firefighter First Class Mark Chandler, Annapolis Fire and Kentland Member.  Fireman Chandler suffers a heart attack after a 24 hour shift.  Which can happen to any of us!!!

At 1320 hours, the engine was alerted for a apartment fire at 3508 Silver Park Drive (29's first due). Engine 29 arrived on scene with smoke showing  from side Alpha.  The engine arrived and picked up 29's line.  Then they advanced a larger attack line above the fire.  The engine went in service at 1409 hours.

April 2, 2008

At 2237 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a vehicle accident with one ejected at Suitland Parkway @ Forestville Road.  The rescue squad arrived on scene and assumed command with one trapped.  The rescue squad extricated the patient in 15 minutes while Batt. Chief McSwain assumed command requesting the eagle (US Park Police) for transport.  The rescue squad went in service at 2321 hours.

April 1, 2008

At 1558 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for smoke coming from a house 6400 Penny Avenue (25's first due).  Engine, Truck, Chief 25A arrived on scene with heavy smoke showing with a basement fire.  The rescue squad arrived on scene and assisted with overhaul of the first floor.  The rescue squad went in service at 1702 hours.
