February 24, 2008 At 0931 hours, the engine was alerted for a vehicle fire on the outer loop south of Branch Ave. The engine arrived on scene with a female driver and two young kids standing on the side of the highway. With the vehicle being overheated and the temperature below 40 degree. The engine crew kept the driver and kids warm until the tow truck and Maryland State Police arrived.
February 24, 2008 At 0427 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a vehicle accident with people trapped at Penn. Ave. @ Spaulding Ave. Engine 17 arrived on scene with priority one trauma and one priority four. The rescue squad arrived on scene and extricated the priority one trauma in minutes. The rescue squad was held for 30 minutes. Later this morning, the rescue squad returned to assist county police with removing the other patient by removing the roof. Crew: (D/O) Lt. Hunt, (O) Lt. Sudjapun, Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Trejos, Firefighter Trader, and Firefighter Butts.
February 20, 2008 At 2032 hours, the engine was alerted for a house fire at 6812 Glen Oak Way (32's area). The engine arrived on scene first and assumed first due engine company duties. The engine laid out 600' of supply line which was picked up by engine 32. The crew pulled a 2" 250' attack line and extingushed the basement fire. Crew: (D/O) President Phillips, (O) Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Trejos, Firefighter Ormerod, Firefighter Bell, and Probationary Firefighter Marge. Deputy Chief White with Division 1.
February 16, 2008 Members enjoy a family day at Morningside.

Johnson, and Probationary Firefighter Tannahill boys.... ------------------------------------------------- At 1711 hours, Car 1503 called in a shed fire next to the gas station at 6308 Allentown Road. Engine 25 arrived on scene putting a quick knock to the shed. The engine pulled a back up line into the gas station building. The units were held for 45 minutes. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Truesdell, (O) Capt. Johnson, Lt. Gale, Firefighter Martin, Firefighter Jennifer, Firefighter Nellis, and Probationary Firefighter Marge.
-------------------------------------------- At 1518 hours, the rescue squad was alerted back to Pyles Lumber ( Allentown Road @ Old Branch Ave.) for another set fire. The rescue squad split into teams with 5 personnel. Team One, pulled a back up line assisting company 25 with knocking the fire. Team 2, used saws and other tools to gain access and removed doors and windows. The rescue squad was held for 1 hour. Rescue Squad Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Truesdell, (O) Firefighter Nellis, Firefigher Jennifer, Firefighter Martin, and Probationary Firefighter Marge.

----------------------------------------------------- At 1139 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a vehicle into a pole at Suitland Parkway @ Penn. Ave. The rescue squad arrived on scene with one in a vehicle, but not trapped. The rescue squad assisted with EMS personnel. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Truesdell, (O) Lt. Gale, Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Johnson (T2), Firefighter Jennifer, Firefighter Bell, Firefighter Trader, and Probationary Firefighter Marge.
--------------------------------------------------- Thirty seconds after clearing the building fire at Pyles Lumber, the engine and rescue squad were alerted for a house on fire at 4659 Lamar Ave. (Company 17's area). Batt. Chief 3 arrived on scene with fire showing. Engine 29 made an interior attack knocking the bulk of the fire. The rescue squad arrived on scene and conducted a primary and second search on all floors with negative results. The engine crew staff on side Alpha with Batt. Chief 3. The units were held for 1 hour. Engine Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Truesdell, (O) Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Nellis, Firefighter Martin, and Probationary Firefighter Jones. Rescue Squad Crew: (D/O) Lt. Hunt, (O) Gale, Firefighter Keffer, Firefighter Johnson (T2), and Probationary Marge.
February 15, 2008 While members were enjoying dinner with two crews in the station. Communications dispatched a box for the area of Old Branch Ave. @ Allentown Way (Company 25's area). The engine, squad, and Company 25's crews rolled up on smoke showing from Pyles Lumber (6303 Old Branch Ave.) With 25 running two crews, the units from Morningside took side Charlie laying a line from 25's pumper. The engine advanced the attack line to one of the set fires in one part of the structure. Command (Chief 25) advised units that he still had fire showing from side Alpha/Bravo. The engine exit the structure and advanced the line into side Charlie/Delta after making access to the second floor using a 24' ladder, hitting the fire rolling across the ceiling. The rescue squad positioned on side Charlie with the engine. The rescue squad crew assisted the engine crew with access to the building by opening it up using saws. The rescue squad crew then conducted a primary and secondary with negative results. The crew then assisted with overhaul of the structure. The engine and rescue squad was held for 2 1/2 hours.

Morningside stays busy with the falling freezing rain, running 32 calls in 24 hours. Calls consisting of accidents, fires, and a drive by shooting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- February 14, 2008 At 2032 hours, the rescue squad was alerted to an apartment fire at 6597 Penn. Ave (Company 26's area). The rescue squad arrived on scene along with engine 26 with smoke showing. Units encountered an apartment in a basement unit. The rescue squad was held for 2153 hours. Crew: (D/O) Deputy Chief White, (O) Firefighter Martin, Firefighter Tupe, Firefighter Regan, and Firefighter Johnson (T2). ---------------------------------------------------- At 0502 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a building fire at 1306 Rollins Ave. (Company 8's area). The rescue squad arrived on scene third and assume the first due special special. Units had a construction trailer fully involved. By the rescue squad having eight and other units under staff, the crew was split into two. Four members assisted with pulling a back line to side Alpha from Engine 8 and the second team, assisted with opening up the trailer. The rescue squad was held for an hour. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Hammond, (O) Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Nellis, Firefighter Trejos, Firefighter Johnson(T2), Firefighter Martin, Firefighter Dawkins, and Firefighter Leonard. Asst. Chief McKlveen --------------------------------------------- At 0241 hours, the rescue squad and ambo were alerted for a vehicle accident on Branch Ave. @ Allentown Road. Engine 26 leaving Southern Maryland Hospital came across the accident, further investigation, we had two people shot in a vehicle. Units were held for 1 hour. Crew: (D/O) Capt. Johnson, (O) Firefighter Nellis, Firefighter Trejos, Firefighter Johnson (T2), Firefighter Martin. Ambo Crew: Firefighter Hammond and Firefighter Dawkins. Asst. Chief C. McKlveen -------------------------------------------- At 0157 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a vehicle accident on the beltway @ Penn. Ave. The rescue squad arrived on scene with other units with a two car accident with county police involved in a foot chase. Units were held for 30 minutes. Crew: (D/O) Capt. A winter storm hits the Washington, Maryland, and Virginia area causing problem for the after noon rush hour. The members of Morningside got alerted for 25 calls during the 24 hour span. -------------------------------------- February 12, 2008 At 1525 hours, Chief 24B came across a vehicle accident involving 15 cars on Route 295 ramp towards D.C. Chief 24B requested numerous units bring the rescue squad as one of the three extrication units. The rescue squad arrived on scene, Team 1 (lead by Capt. Beck) assisted with EMS operations. The second team (lead by Capt. Johnson) formed a tag line from the winch to Firefighter Trejos , to Firefighter Johnson (T2), to Firefighter from Engine 73 (Bolling AFB -NDW). The tag line was placed in-service to assist crews with access to the vehicles, due to the icy conditions. The rescue squad cleared 1640 hours. Crew: (D/O) Capt. Johnson, (O) Capt. Beck, Firefighter Trejos, Firefighter Johnson (T2), Firefighter Bell, and Probationary Firefighter Marge.
Wintry Mix Wreaks Havoc On Local Roads ------------------------------------------------------------- With the icy conditions, the ambulance got dispatched to Kenilworth Ave. @ Madison Street (Company 13's area) for a vehicle Accident.
February 11, 2008 At 1437 hours, the engine was alerted to 6901 Temple Hills Road (32's area) for an outside fire behind Crossland High School. Engine 32 arrived on scene with approximately 2 1/2 acres off requesting an engine and two brush units. The engine arrived on scene taking there own hydrant at Brockway Drive. The engine dropped 600' of 4" connecting it to the hydrant. Then used the leader line (200' of 2 1/2") to advance in the wood, connected to 200' of 1 1/2 to extinguish the fire. The engine was held for two hours. Crew: (D/O) Lt. Hunt, (O) Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Martin, Firefighter Keffer, and Probationary Firefighter Marge.
February 11, 2008 At 1157 hours, the rescue squad was alerted to 4235 28th Ave. for five people trapped in an elevator. The rescue squad arrived on scene and removed one person from the elevator. Crew: (D/O) Tech. Pride, (O) Capt. Beck, Lt. Hunt, and Firefighter Keffer.
February 10, 2008 What started out as a relaxing day for the volunteers at Morningside, The winds picked up along with the calls totaling 15. At 1611 hours, the engine was alerted to 10101 Rolling Green Way (32's area) for a large outside fire. Rescue-Engine 40 arrived on scene requesting numerous engines, tankers, and brush trucks. The engine was held for four hours. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Hansen, (O) Firefighter Hammond, Firefighter Dawkins, and Probationary Firefighter Jones.
---- ------------------------------------------ ----While the engine was saving vegetation, the rescue squad crew was kept busy. At 1621 hours, the rescue squad was alerted to 4307 Lori Street (First Due) for a car into the building. The rescue squad arrived on scene with one into a house with the patient unconscious. Volunteer Major McClelland had command requesting a building inspector. Medic 25 unit transported the patient to a local hospital. The rescue squad was released at 1657. Crew: (D/O) Capt. Johnson, (O) Lt. Sudjapun, Firefighter Reagan, and Firefighter Nellis. --------------------------------------------- The rescue squad was alerted for a shooting at 7201 Nimitz (26's area). ----------------------------------------------- After clearing the shooting, the rescue squad was alerted for a vehicle accident at Indian Head Highway @ Old Fort Road. The rescue squad arrived on scene after Charles County Engine 11 (Bryans Road) with one trapped. The rescue squad removed the driver side door to remove the patient. The rescue squad went in-service at 1735. Crew: (D/O) Capt. Johnson, (O) Lt. Sudjapun, Firefighter Reagan, and Firefighter Nellis.
----------------------------------------------- After the crews warmed up and ate dinner, the engine was specialed to 8200 Rosaryville Road (25's area) for an outside fire close to the house. The engine arrived on scene and was given direction from Batt. Chief 7 (Chief Small) to lay a line from Engine 25 to the house. The engine laid out 600' of 3" and hand jacked 400' of 3" to side Bravo of the home. Then connected 400' feet of 1 3/4" to help extinguish the fire. Units were held 2 hours. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Hansen, (O) Lt. Gale, Capt. Johnson, Firefighter Dawkins, Firefighter Nellis, and Firefighter Dunn.
February 9, 2008 At 0930 hours, the rescue squad was alerted for a house fire at 7203 Webster Lane (32's area). The rescue squad arrived on scene first with smoke showing. After gaining access into the home, the fire was located in a bedroom closet by firefighter Johnson (T2). Engine 29 advanced their attack line and extinguished the fire. Dispatched: Engine 32, 25, 29, 42, Tower-Ladder 21, Truck 26, and Rescue Squad 27. Crew: (D/O) Deputy Chief White, (O) Firefighter Nellis, and Firefighter Johnson (T2). Ambo Crew: Firefighter Hammond and Firefighter McDowell.

February 8, 2008 At 1806 hours, the rescue squad and ambo were alerted for a vehicle accident with people trapped at Silver Hill Road @ Penn. Ave. The rescue squad arrived on scene extricating one person from one of the vehicles. Moments later, County Police advised Battalion Chief 3 (Mcswain) that another vehicle was involved. The rescue squad repositioned and extricated the person from the second vehicle. The rescue squad went in-service at 1906 hours. Crew: (D/O) Capt. February 4, 2008 The engine was alerted with other units in the area for a house fire at 6900 Westchester Drive (32's area). Batt. Chief 5 arrived on scene with smoke showing. Moments later, Engine 27 and 32 arrived on scene at the same time. The engine picked up engine 32's line. Units had a small kitchen fire. The engine was held for 30 minutes. Dispatched: Engine 32, 25, 27, 29, TW 21, Truck 26, and Rescue Squad 47. Crew: (D/O) Lt. Johnson, (O) Lt. Gale, Firefighter Nellis, Firefighter Trejos, and Firefighter Ormerod, and Firefighter Bell. February 1, 2008 While enroute to a local elementary school for a after school program show in the first due, communication alerted the engine to a vehicle accident involving a U.S. Park Police Motors Unit. Due to the injury of the officer, U.S. Park Police requested there helicopter for transported of the officer. Crew: (D/O) Firefighter Hunt, (O) Lt. Johnson, Firefighter Nellis, and Firefighter Jennifer.
